Davide Ballerini claimed his first Giro d’Italia stage win in Naples after a chaotic finale wiped out most of the sprinters on the final corner. The stage had been expected to end in a bunch sprint, but the wet cobbled U-turn 350 metres from the line caused a mass crash. Ballerini and Jasper Stuyven avoided the incident, with the Italian holding off the Belgian on the uphill drag to the finish.
