Sepp Kuss won the Giro d’Italia queen stage from the breakaway, attacking on the final climb to Piani di Pezzé and soloing clear for his first Giro stage victory. Jonas Vingegaard finished strongly behind his teammate to move closer to overall victory, with only stage 20 and the finale in Rome still to come. Giulio Ciccone was caught late after a long-range move but took enough mountain points to move into the lead of the mountains classification.
