Jonas Vingegaard underlined his Giro d’Italia ambitions with a commanding victory on stage 7, the race’s first summit finish on Blockhaus. After Visma | Lease a Bike had increased the pace on the final climb, the Dane attacked with 5.5 kilometres remaining, eventually dropping Giulio Pellizzari and holding off Felix Gall to win by 13 seconds. Race leader Afonso Eulálio lost contact on the climb but dug deep to retain the maglia rosa, while Vingegaard took his seventh win of the season and another step towards targeting all three Grand Tours.
