Lorena Wiebes powered to a dominant win on stage 1 of the UAE Tour Women in Madinat Zayed, extending her race record for stage victories. Patient in the headwind finish, the Dutch champion launched late and won by several bike lengths ahead of Lara Gillespie and Zoe Bäckstedt. It was her seventh UAE Tour Women stage win and 119th pro road victory, putting her into the red leader’s jersey for stage 2.
