Paul Seixas won the first summit finish of the Volta ao Algarve on Alto da Fóia, edging Juan Ayuso in a tight sprint after the pair and João Almeida attacked clear on the final climb. Ayuso set up the move by driving the pace with Lidl Trek and launching his attack with 3.5 km to go, with only Seixas and Almeida able to follow as the climb exploded. Ayuso takes the yellow jersey on bonus seconds but is level on time with Seixas ahead of the time trial, while Almeida sits third overall at seven seconds.
