Elisa Balsamo retained the maglia rosa at the Giro d’Italia Women after winning stage 3 in Buja, her third victory in as many days. Although the peloton split on the Montenars climb after attacks from Demi Vollering and Anna van der Breggen, Balsamo managed to chase back before the finish. A late solo move by Sigrid Ytterhus Haugset was caught with 300 metres to go, setting up a reduced bunch sprint that Balsamo timed perfectly.
