Alex Baudin won the opening stage of the Dauphiné from the breakaway after attacking on the Côte de Rousset and holding off the chasing peloton. The EF Education-EasyPost rider gained time in the final kilometres to take the third professional victory of his career. Behind him, Ramses Debruyne finished second and Léo Bisiaux took third, while a late group including Oscar Onley and Kevin Vauquelin gained 12 seconds on the reduced peloton.
