Wout van Aert won stage 5 of the Critérium du Dauphiné after a controlled bunch sprint. A six rider breakaway was caught with 12 kilometres to go, after Visma | Lease a Bike and Cofidis had led the chase. Van Aert was perfectly positioned by his teammates and proved clearly strongest ahead of Hugo Hofstetter and Phil Bauhaus.
