Filippo Ganna dominated the shortened 12.2 km Vuelta a España individual time-trial, setting a storming time of 13:00. João Almeida gained a few seconds on Jonas Vingegaard, causing minor shifts in the general classification. The stage favored powerful time-trial specialists on the pan-flat course, with early riders like Daan Hoole and Ganna setting the benchmark.

What we said beforehand

Stage 18 brings the first individual time trial of the race, a 26km pan-flat course around Valladolid suited to time trial specialists. Climbers less adept in the discipline risk losing valuable time in the GC battle. Valladolid last hosted a Vuelta time trial in 2023, when Filippo Ganna won ahead of Remco Evenepoel.
