Stage 12 Vuelta a España 2025

04.09

Juan Ayuso claimed his second stage victory of the Vuelta a España, outsprinting Javier Romo in Los Corrales de Buelna after joining the early break and attacking on the Collada de Brenes. The win came just days after Ayuso had branded UAE Team Emirates-XRG a “dictatorship,” underlining the turbulent backdrop to his success. Behind, there were no changes among the general classification men, with Jonas Vingegaard safely defending the red jersey ahead of João Almeida and Tom Pidcock.

What we said beforehand

Stage 12 from Laredo to Los Corrales de Buelna features two key climbs: Puerto de Alisas early on and the category one Collada de Brenes deeper into the route, separated by mostly flat terrain. Alisas could be a launchpad for attacks and a test for sprinters, though its distance from the finish may limit GC action ahead of the L’Angliru the next day. The finale favours opportunists, with a descent leading into a flat run to the line.
