Mathieu van der Poel won the shortened ninth stage of the Tour de France after beating Tobias Halland Johannessen and Tom Pidcock in a four rider sprint. The Dutchman made the decisive move on the Mont Bessou climb, splitting the breakaway before the leading quartet stayed clear of the peloton. Tadej Pogačar finished safely in the bunch and retained the overall lead ahead of the first rest day.
